Restoring a derelict or
rundown farmhouse or similar property in the Spanish countryside can provide
you with a unique holiday home at a very reasonable cost. You may even find
you like it so much that you decide to stay for good.
If you have some DIY skills, the work involved beneath Spain’s sunny skies
can be thoroughly enjoyable, and your time will be well invested.
When Alec Fry, together with his Norwegian-born wife Erna, took on the
restoration of a 300-year-old farmhouse in the Malaga mountains, they wrote
a book about their experiences. Not a romanticised tale for the armchair
traveller, but a down-to-earth handbook based on their practical
experience. It has now been published by Santana Books, called “FINCA:
Renovating an Old Farmhouse in Spain”.
This web site is being developed to help those in a similar position. It
continues the story of the book, and will interest all who feel like putting
their spare time and energy to good use in idyllic surroundings.
Note that it is intended as an
interactive forum to share the views of all who are interested in the
subject. Please see the Email page for details of a new Yahoo mailgroup
which you can join NOW, perfectly free of charge!
